Islamic cars by PROTON, anyone?

Based on a posting by Paul Tan, Proton has in the pipeline agreed to work closely with Iran and Turkey to produce Islamic cars for their respective countries. The cars will tailored to be more Muslim-friendly for the public of the said countries.

A potential Islamic car for Iran and Turkey?

The Islamic car would be fitted with a compass to determine the Qiblat (location of Mecca) and dedicated spaces for headscarves and for the Quran. The idea was mooted when the Malaysian businessmen and politicians met up with their counterparts in the said countries.

I must say its a good move by Proton to bring back their glorious days. The Middle East is a very good market for Proton to develop further, although the Wiras and Impian (Waja) had made their mark in both countries since 2002. It is time for Proton to build on their strengths and focus on growth, with efforts on the double!

Proton has also agreed to supply 5,000 units of Impians (Waja) to Iran to be used as taxis. The move is to replace and increase the amount of taxis in the country as they are mostly too old for the roads and too outdated.

Whether Proton will produce the Islamic cars for our Malaysian market, this I wish to know. Kudos to Proton for their effort. Lets just hope everything goes as planned for our national car maker.

  1. I bet it would be a production hassle if it is to be one line specific. I would recommend more of media hardware and software option list. Production wise it should be cheaper and buyers would have to choice to have it or not.

  2. great, now car also have to be Halal

  3. islamic car? work with 2 other islamic country but only equipped with 3 distinct features which anybody can get it from any car available in market. for compass, u can buy it from shop. u dont need special space for your headscarf, and it become useless if the driver/passenger dont even wear headscarf or dont perform prayer. and for quran, i agree it need special compartment. what i think, to call it islamic car it should also has a price tag that is appropriate to its production cost…that’s more important than oher features.
