A concept family sports hatchback

Making its debut at the Geneva Show, the Prototype-S is derived from the Lancer sports sedan (Galant Fortis on the Japanese market) and is currently on sale in most Mitsubishi Motors markets worldwide.

Sporting an inverted-slant nose with trapezoidal grille front fascia that comprise the Mitsubishi Motors new design identity, the Prototype-S uses exterior lines to form a shape that illustrates powerful and sporty. The 225/40R19 tires on 19-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels add to the tautly muscular and road-hugging image  of the hatchback.

Boasts of a new 2.0-liter MIVEC (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic Control system) 4-cylinder DOHC intercooled / turbocharged engine, the Prototype-S is able to generate 240 PS and 35 kg-m that also powers the Lancer Ralliart. The concept car is due to go on sale in North America in the summer of 2008.

Hatched rear. Either you hate it or you love it

The powerplant is mated to a Twin Clutch SST (Sport Shift Transmission) automated manual transmission that gives the driver simple control of and feel-good access to the car’s exhilaratingly sporty performance. The full-time 4WD driveline features Mitsubishi Motors’ Active Center Differential (ACD) that uses an electronically controlled multi-plate hydraulic clutch for better balance between steering response and traction.

In terms of the exterior outlook, the rear side looks awkwardly protruding…Well, looks aside, there will still be people buying it. :P
