Congratulations, Proton Persona!

The first feather on its cap, the Proton Persona has won the hearts of Malaysians, and especially to the people at Frost & Sullivan, a growth consulting firm that also does market research of all sorts.

It is a great car, it really is!

Proton Holdings Berhad was awarded 2008 Frost & Sullivan ASEAN Automotive Award - Best Model of the Year in Malaysia for its Persona model, the car unveiled in August 2007. It is very appropriate for Proton to clinch this award as we all know that sales of the Persona has surpassed to 5-digits, and is still growing!

On how Proton being selected as a winner, Frost & Sullivan have short-listed companies in ASEAN and evaluated them on a variety of actual market performance such as revenue growth, market share and growth in market share, leadership in product innovation, marketing strategy and business development strategy.

Also winning the same award were Indonesia with the Nissan Grand Livina, Thailand with the Honda Civic 1.8L and Singapore with the Mitsubishi Lancer 1.6L.

Perodua took the Best Value-for-Money Model of the Year for its Viva. In another note, the cars from Perodua such as the Kancil, Kelisa and Kenari are favourites among used car dealers. These models may be old but are on a roll now with high prices. A friend of mine whose mom wants to sell her Kelisa two years ago was put on hold due to low price until recently, the prices of a used Kelisa shot up almost double, as being offered by car dealers nationwide.

Somehow, I had predicted this eventuality some years back that these compact cars will be the next best thing in fuel economy when fuel prices soar.. so you can start selling your Kancil, or any other car of similar capacity if you want to get better returns, or you might want to hold on to the car because it doesnt gulp on petrol… how? :P

Anyway, kudos to Dato Syed Zainal, the man at the helm of Proton, and his award-winning Persona!
