Still no buyer for Honda, Button may lose career

Following the global credit crunch that resulted in Honda pulling out of the 2009 Grand Prix season, Jensen Button, one of the drivers in the Honda Racing F1 team, may soon need to kiss his F1 racing career goodbye if there are no takers for the team.

The end of a dream?

The Japanese automaker suggests that a management buyout would be feasible if the F1 team were to race in this year’s season. With the new aerodynamic package fitted onto their 2009 car, it could be the selling factor for potential investors to take over the team.

David Coulthard,  former F1 racer who retired last year said that he was in a similar position back in the end of 2004 season when his contract expired and he was left in the lurch, only to be saved at the eleventh hour when Red Bull bought Jaguar.

Jensen Button is in high hopes in the coming weeks for a life-saver for his career. Coulthard is concerned that once Button is out, it would be hard to get back in as there are plenty of budding new drivers out there that the other teams  preferably pick and investors to bank on.

Button needs all the luck in the world to race again with Honda

The 29-year-old Button won the 2006 Hungary race and so far has brought the Honda team just six points in 2007 and only 14 points in 2008 – the disappointment that led Honda Motor Co. Ltd. to quit.
