Road Accident – What to do next?
People usually get panic whenever they got involved in car accidents. Some will stay calm but others end up in the state of shock. But what happens after an accident happens especially if you were involved in it? (touch wood) I would like to share some tips on how to deal with this, but this guide is skewed towards the motor insurance part of it – to help you in helping the insurance company process your claims faster, if not smoother

Sticky situation: Keep your blood pressure low and all else will end smoothly
What do you REALLY need to do next? Here are some guidelines that you may be very useful in times like this:
- Try not to panic and calm yourself down
- Call someone, a friend or a family member/relative whom you think are nearby to be with you
- If there are any injuries involved, immediately call 999 and call for ambulance/fire engine
- If no injuries, move your vehicle to a safe area away from the traffic. Malaysians are generally a helpful lot to help move your car.
- Take a note of the names and addresses of the other driver(s) involved in the accident
- Not the model (i.e Proton Saga) and vehicle registration number (i.e. WNAxxxx) involved
- Note the name and addresses of witnesses (if there are any)
- If you are good in drawing, try sketch out a simple diagram of how the accident happened, the position of the vehicles before and after the accident
Every car is insuredTo win in claiming for your motor insurance:
- Get the information on the names of insurance companies of the other victims of the accident
- Don’t discuss on whose fault it was. It will only complicate the handling of claims
- If you car needs to be towed, make sure that the car is sent to the correct workshop. Call your insurance company accident hotline number to ask for the correct workshop to tow it to. Usually the hotline is on the windscreen sticker.
