Nissan Cube smiling at you
Never in my life that I come across such an innovation! But if it originated from the folks from the Land of the Rising Sun, it’s a no-brainer; there’s always something up their sleeves when it comes to new (and crazy?) inventions. They say, ‘You are what you eat’ but in the automotive context, ‘You are what you drive’ fits the bill by the creators of the Sentras, Skylines and Latios. The cutesy Nissan Cube on display at the Nissan Design Centre was wrapped with polyurethane elastimer, enabling the car to show ‘facial expressions’.

Chubby looking Cube
It is the same material used in making outer, inner and sports wear for humans. Combined with animatronics used widely in movies such as The Gremlins and Jurassic Park, the Cube’s facade was made to resemble a face with expressions originating from the driver. Do note that the Cube already have that cute looks and now with a smiling face, it’s going to melt the hearts of both men and women. Smart marketing gimmick there!
I dont know how do they ‘connect’ the physical movements with the onboard animatronics but this sure is a novel way to show the other driver positive or negative remarks. With this, you be sure of a pleasant drive when you get other cars ’smiling at you’. Of course, this innovation would be very useful in cities where the usual congestion occurs – showing less of the middle finger if one is pissed at the other.
I think Malaysians will have no qualms in adopting this innovation. Let’s just wait and see..
