Check NCD online before renewing your car insurance
You can now check your NCD (or NCB) status online with ISM Malaysia! But to some of you unsure of what NCD or NCB is, you will know it when it is time to renew your car insurance. Haha! Since you are already here, might as well I share with you my definition of this three-letter word.
In laymen terms, NCD or No-Claim Discount (NCB – No Claim Bonus) is the allowed discount from the actual rate of car insurance to pay. In other words, it is a discount applied to the premium to pay for buying a car insurance.
The rate of premium to pay for the insurance coverage is determined by PIAM. Prices of car insurance are governed by several factors such as the age of the driver, years of driving experience, engine capacity, age of the car and the NCD percentage, all prescribed by PIAM.
The premium amount is also relative to the estimated value of the car in the next calendar year. For example, the value of a used 2-year old Honda Civic could be RM95,000 and when you pay for the car insurance, the amount should not be more than RM95,000 too. The premium amount to insure the value RM95,000 is around RM2,800 (estimated). With NCD, your life would be much easier and provides a little relief to your wallet.
The NCD, at percentages of 0% to 55%, from Year 1 to Year 5 and above, respectively, helps to reduce the amount of premium to pay. For the 2-year-old Honda Civic, the premium to pay is RM2,800 – 30% = RM1960 for the 3rd year coverage. It’s about RM840 worth of savings there rather than paying the full amount of RM2,800!
However, there were some fraud cases where NCDs are over declared by some irresponsible car owners. People do not like to pay high premiums therefore resort to these unlawful measures just to save a buck or two.
Enter ISM, the online insurance services provider with their newly launched NCD checker. Car owners can now check the status of their NCD percentage online for free before paying to renew their car insurance. The purpose here is to educate people about being honest and also a convenience for them so that they can plan for the next car insurance renewal.
