Malaysia’s auto sales rose 33 percent year-on-year in January, an industry group said Monday, as improved consumer sentiment helped boost Southeast Asia’s biggest passenger car market.
The Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) said sales of new motor vehicles increased to 50,622 units in January, up from 38,107 sold in the same month last year.

Oops, did we did it again??
The “market situation and consumer sentiment (was) very much more favourable compared to a year ago when the global economic downturn set in,” the MAA said in a statement, adding the launch of new models contributed to the sales boost.
The group however forecast sales in February are likely to be lower compared to January due to the Lunar New Year holiday and a shorter working month.
January’s figures were 6.2 percent higher than motor vehicle sales in December 2009, according to the MAA.
